Missing Facilitator:  Click Gathering # below

INCLUDE THIS UPDATE:

See notes for g1-2-0-b on the edit page.  Think I changed it to not use ANCHORS and just have GL scroll through what the GUEST would have read, even though he/she has given reading cards to circle members to replace missing guest.

CHECK WHERE to cut off the "facilitator" content and when to sent GL back to:  ALSO, get spot # for these speaker cards for each gathering.  Anchors only work when not in "edit" and in preview or live.  NEED TO update anchors as speaker cards are added.

THIS IS THE END OF GUEST, BEFORE GL PICKS UP IN G1-2-0

• Before we begin our shares, let's take two minutes to review what we've just written and select those parts that we'd like to share so that, when the baton is passed, you can read what you've already highlighted in your journals.

• Now setting the timer for the 2 minute review.

[SIXTH SPEAKER]

• Appreciated some of the great ideas everyone just shared about the Alan Watts video.

• Some of the ideas from the video, lead to our next activity to explore the question:  "Where does success come from?"

• Throughout our lives, from the time when we are teens, or earlier, till the day we die, just about everyone wonders about this idea related to: “Where does success come from?”

[2-second PAUSE]

•  This question invites an even larger question“What IS success?”

• The Alan Watts video just seen also invites us to consider this question.  What does success mean to each of us?

[2-second PAUSE]

• Each of us may have different and similar views about what success looks like for them.

• As we know, success takes many forms: with relationships, with careers, with our finances

-- small things like that.

• We know already that there are many causes for success.

Even “luck” can play a large role, although it’s not something we can count on because, well, “luck” is luck.  If we could count on it, it would be called something else.

• One idea that supports our success that most all people tend to agree with is that, aside from luck, and maybe it's even the top idea, is that “more effort in = more success out.”

A related truism - from many walks of life --- perhaps you’ve heard is that:

“you reap what you sow.”

• This truism relates to many -- if not all -- areas of our lives.

•  Much beyond its verbatim meaning for farming, is the clear notion that we reap the bounty of our fields based on the seeds we sow.

• At this point, still near at the start of the Retreat, we are putting so much emphasis on this singular idea because it is truly is a big idea --

• It's an idea that can drive many other ideas.

• Allowing this idea to drive us could impact many of our decisions; now, here in this Retreat --

as well as in the successes we create in our life.

We already see this idea showing up in the sports world where more effort translates to more practice -- which then produces more success.

• We see it in the art world; whether it's in painting, or sculpture, or dance.

We even see it in learning math and logic, from multiplication to calculous, to learning code-writing.

This idea about "more effort equals more success" is one of those that is easy to see and agree with.

Yet “doing it” -- as even Nike suggests injust do it,” just put in the effort, -- is easier said than done.

[2-second PAUSE]

• A related idea, that we already know, is about how perseverance can support us in achieving what we want.

The related idea is that, at the core of perseverance-- what fuels perseverance -- is effort.

[2-second PAUSE]

Many times in our lives we all value a good shortcut.

• Sometimes a shortcut while driving a car can save us some good time.

• It's ok to take the shortcut of a different path -- and nothing is lost.

• With this Retreat though, you've chosen to be here, in part, because there is great value to be on and stay on the path to a passionate career.

The Retreat was carefully designed to flow from step to step, and to support you in building from one step to the next -- as you will see.

Like the foundation that holds up a house, short cuts in a foundation can result in not having the stability for your home that you really want.

• You'll see here in the Retreat that putting your best effort into writing in your journal after an activity, will give you building blocks and a foundation for more success in this Retreat.

• During the Retreat, you'll find that the NEXT step can come later that day -- or at a future gathering.

[2-second PAUSE]

• Being in this Retreat is a unique opportunity that few will ever have

• The Retreat design wants to emphasize that,

while you're here engaging these Retreat steps, it really is a time to put in your best effort for each step.

• It's not always obvious, so that's why the Retreat pauses to highlight this idea, to encourage your efforts for each step, and to trust that if you pull out the stops and put in the effort, the results will truly support you.

• Based on Passion Spark's experience, we just want you to know -- sincerely -- that any shortcuts, will diminish your own outcomes.

• The design of this Retreat combines many key components and they are all focused to support your vision of a fresh and authentic view for your own future -- for a fulfilling career.

• These components comprise the Retreat's formula for your success.

• Taking shortcuts will interfere with this formula and with the success the Retreat wants for each participant.

[2-second PAUSE]

• Ok, enough on that.

There is an additional perspective, and that is one that supports everyone else in the circle.

When shortcuts are not taken, your full presence during the Retreat also supports the other members of your circle

• It just creates a wonderful environment when everyone can see that everyone else in the circle is fully engaging on the Retreat path.

• Engaging full-on encourages everyone.

• So now, to bring these ideas together, our next activity is to imagine an example from our own lives.

• It almost goes without saying that each of us has found more success when we have put in more effort.

• This next activity is to imagine a time in your past when you really pulled out all the stops, and put a lot of effort into something.

You prepared, or planned, or practiced to support you in really getting something you wanted.

[2-second PAUSE]

If it's challenging in this moment to remember an example from your own efforts, that's ok.

• Perhaps you’ve been impressed observing someone else who really pulled out all the stops and then they had a great outcome for themselves.

• During this next activity it’s ok to write about this other person's experience that led to success.

• Whenever we think of this example of this other person, it still supports and reminds us of the reality of this truism.

• The main idea for this activity is to identify, and then write about, how this truism about of how  "more effort actually does equals more results out" in real life.

• First though, now passing the baton to ______  [name of SECOND speaker] to lead us in this next activity.

[SECOND SPEAKER]

• Let’s begin by adding a new subheading to our Journals, “Reap what you sow”.  We'll send this title to CHAT now so we can all copy and paste it into our journals.

GL ALERT:  Please copy contents of box below and paste into EVERYONE Chat.

New journal subtitle:

"You reap what you sow"

• Ok, the new subtitle was just sent to chat.  Will now take a several second pause so everyone has time to copy and paste the subtitle into their journals.

[15-second PAUSE]

In a few moments, we'll send some prompts for this next activity to help jog our memories to choose a "more effort = more success" experience."

• When you first see the prompts, there is time to take a good minute or two and allow them to support a memory of this truism from your own life.

• Or, alternatively, when you saw an example when someone else put in the effort and it led to their success.

Thenonce we select an example of this idea, we'll have another 4 minutes to write about it in our journals.

With 2 minutes to review prompts and 4 to write, now setting the timer for 6 minutes.

• Will check in, after the timer goes off, to see if anyone would like a bit more time.

• Ok, now sending the prompts to CHAT.

GL Alert:  Please copy contents of box below and paste into EVERYONE Chat.

Prompts for personal stories in life when putting in more effort produced good results:

>>> Choose any example from your life when you put in more effort; or chose an activity that is prompted by one of the items in this list below:

• Your preparation and practice for a sports activity.

• Research and preparation for writing a paper.

• Building something, perhaps as part of a team, maybe like building a house for "Habitat for Humanity" that took a lot of effort.

• Building something special, where you put in a lot of effort, maybe several hours in one day, or over several days.

• Preparing for and participating in a running marathon.

• Putting exhausting effort into a hike, a bike ride, a swim, or a team process like sailing, that led to an accomplishment you were proud about.

• Participation in a course in school that required much effort, maybe by yourself or on a team, that resulted in an outcome that you were proud about.

>>>  WITHIN your recollection of the activity, or AT THE END, mention what was/were the outcome(s) achieved.

SPEAKER:  Please check your chat to see if prompts were sent, then continue with ...

• Ok, the prompts are now in CHAT for us all to open and begin writing. Now setting timer for 6 minutes

SPEAKER:  Please set timer for 6 minutes, and after it sounds, continue with ...

• If anyone would like a bit more time to bring your writing to a close, please just say out loud:  "need more time" and we'll set timer for another minute.

SPEAKER:  If anyone asks for more time, set timer for 1 minute, then continue with ...

• Ok, hope you found that activity to be enjoyable!

• If you are still writing, please bring your writing to a close for now.

SPEAKER:  If someone is still writing, gently request, out loud, that they please bring their writing to a close, then continue with ...

• In a moment, we'll have a pause to review what we've written and highlight the portions of our story that we'd like to share in a go-around.

• While you are doing your review and highlighting, here are a couple support ideas.

One idea is that, hearing the feedback and ideas from others in our circle, can bring us support in obvious ways -- and also in unexpected ways.

Unexpected ideas may occur as we listen to each others' stories about the examples we just wrote.

• The live examples we share can encourage others in our circle about the value of pulling out all the stops.

• Passion Spark has witnessed that, sometimes, the sharing from one participant may provide significant insights for others in the circle.

Sometimes these examples can translate into a clear path forward with such confidence that it can be life-changing.

• Before we begin our shares, let's take two minutes to review what we've just written and select those parts that we'd like to share so that, when the baton is passed, we can read what we've already highlighted in your journals.

• Now setting the timer for the 2 minute review.

SPEAKER:  Set timer for 2 minutes, and when it sounds, continue with ….
